TRADEMARKS

Clearance, filing, opposition and renewal — on the Sudanese register directly,
and across Africa through ARIPO, OAPI and Madrid.

WHAT WE HANDLE

A mark is only as strong as the record behind it. We keep that record complete: the search that justified the filing, the specification of goods that survives examination, and the recordals that keep ownership clean when the business changes hands.

Most instructions reach us through the UAE desk or from a foreign associate. Either way the file opens the same day, and what comes back to you is the filing number — not a promise of one.

SERVICES

FROM SEARCH TO CERTIFICATE

CLEARANCE

We search the register for conflicting marks in your class and report before you spend on filing.

2–3 DAYS

FILING

Lodged on a simply signed power of attorney. Your filing number comes back the same week.

WEEK 1

EXAMINATION

The Registrar examines. We answer official actions and argue distinctiveness where needed.

MONTHS 2–6

PUBLICATION

Published in the Trademark Gazette. Third parties may oppose within the statutory window.

OPPOSITION WINDOW

REGISTRATION

Certificate issues for ten years. We diary the renewal and watch the gazette for look-alikes.

10 YEARS, RENEWABLE

FOUR DOCUMENTS TO START

GOOD TO KNOW

Sudan follows the Nice Classification. Each class is filed and priced separately.
Registration lasts ten years and is renewable indefinitely.
Late renewal is possible against a fine rather than a refiling.

COMMON QUESTIONS

DO I NEED A LOCAL COMPANY TO REGISTER A MARK IN SUDAN?

No. Foreign applicants file through a local agent, which is the role we perform. You need no presence, subsidiary or local partner.

That is how most of our work arrives. The UAE desk takes the instruction, confirms scope and price, and runs the file through Khartoum. You are billed and reported to from one place

We recommend it. A search in one class costs a fraction of a filing and tells you whether the mark is worth the official fee. It also shapes the specification of goods so the application draws fewer objections.

Through ARIPO you designate the states you want. Through OAPI one filing covers all seventeen
members as a single unitary right. Through Madrid you designate members from a basic
application. We price the routes against your country list before you commit
